Sincerely, is love costly? How costly is love? Better yet, what is love? They say love is an emotion. It may be defined as a feeling, an attitude or a state of affection. It is a strong emotional attraction with a personal attachment to a person, being or thing. Love is normally found deep in your heart.
As you’ve noticed, it is difficult to define love mainly because love is better experienced than defined. We experience love when it is given freely to us in acts of kindness, generosity, self sacrifice and denial of certain luxuries. Parents usually sacrifice a lot for their children be it during child bearing or rearing until the child attains age of maturity. Even at maturity, some parents still make sacrifices for their adult children because of love. Love costs something…it may cause pain, tears or joy. Just how costly is Love?
All the best things in life are free; air, life, rain water, breath, sunshine, the beauty of the universe, the ocean to name a few. These are things that would adversely affect life on earth if a small percentage of their content were to be altered. Yet we get them for free in the same proportion on a daily basis. This in itself portrays some great love from an Awesome Divine God!
Love, at What Cost?
Just like air and rain water are free, so too is love. Love cannot be bought or sold. It is freely given and freely received. Love strongly binds two people, a family, a community or even a nation together. It attaches us with very strong invisible bonds. These same bonds enable us to go through numerous challenges of life together as a couple, family or country and come out better than we were before. Love is not a prerogative of the human race alone; birds of the air, mammals and all sorts of creatures experience love. The mother bear will show love and care to her cubs; so too will the majestic eagle to her eaglets! Love provides safety and security to the budding creatures. Love is truly what makes the world go round…
Love Does Cost Something!
All this said and done, love is like a garden of roses. It needs to be tended and nurtured otherwise it may wither and die. There needs to be some form of commitment to love and stand by those we love; in the absence of which it becomes infatuation.
We need to develop love with a passion for it to make a difference in the lives of the less fortunate in the society, love for our country and love for those who live around us; in the absence of passion, love is mere perseverance.
Love is all about giving and taking. The more one understands the reason, purpose and intention for loving and how to love, the more they are able to give and receive love that they richly desire. And that’s how costly love is.
