YOUR IMAGE IN LIFE

Look into a mirror. What do you see? I know some of you will say; I see myself, some will say I see a reflection of myself yet some will say I see a determined person or a failure. Maybe I should phrase that question differently. What do you really want to see in the mirror? Of course you want to see a beautiful or handsome face, one filled with hope and confidence for the future.
I was teaching a group of youth through my volunteer organisation and I posed this question to them. Of course I made them look through a mirror and waited for the answers. I then went on to tell them that what they saw in the mirror was their own image. What is an image? It is a reflection, a picture, a copy or a likeness of something to its original or real thing. The fact that the Bible tells us that we are made in God’s image means we are a likeness to our creator. In essence, we look somewhat like God. And being the creator of the universe, God is great and full of wisdom. He is smart too! That means there exists greatness in us and because God loves us so much, He breathed into us His own breath so that we may live. Hence we are precious in His eyes. I told the young people that as they were being created in their mother’s wombs, they were being made to accomplish a certain purpose in life. I gave the example of when a carpenter makes some piece of furniture; he makes it for a certain purpose. A table may be made for eating, writing or storing items the same way a spoon is used for eating and not for digging! They too have a purpose to accomplish on earth hence the fact that they are alive to this day. The day they finish the work set out on earth for them, God will take back His breadth and we will term them dead!
So be encouraged and realise that you have value within you. Stop thinking that no-one cares for you. Remove those negative thoughts. Because you are valuable, value yourself. Set values with the knowledge that they will empower you live a fruitful life thus enable you accomplish your purposes in life. The values you set should be aligned with God’s will for your life thus equip you accomplish your goals with ease.
