YOUR GOALS IN LIFE
Imagine waking up one morning, opening the door of your house and walking. You walk and walk and walk… Will anything much be accomplished by this act? No. Why? For the simple reason that you are doing nothing but walking. Unless one is in some form of exercising, this aimless walking will yield nothing much. This same case applies in our lives. We don’t just live life, but we should make an effort to live a life that has direction or some form of strategy. Failure to do this will lead to a life that yields nothing much. It is vital that before you touch the handles of the door to your house you have an idea of where you want to go, and what you want to do as you venture out. This may be known to some as a goal or purpose in life.
So what is a goal? A goal is a vision, a dream, a task or objective that someone wants to achieve in the coming future. A goal gives one purpose and direction in their lives as they work towards achieving it.
So how does one set goals? One must first think of the end in mind. What is the end product desired? From there, steps are then built towards achieving that end product divided. This is done by dividing the end product into small tasks achievable within years, months, weeks and finally days and hours. In order to visualise what the end product is, one needs to first take a moment and reflect internally. Search yourself from within and ask the following questions;
What are your likes and dislikes?
What are you passionate about?
What is your obsession?
Make a habit of writing answers to these questions down, reflect on them and make amendments where necessary. Have a journal where you write down your thoughts, you will be surprised at how many fruitful ideas will emerge from this exercise.
Time plays a vital role for one to be successful in achieving their goals. As you plan and stage steps towards achieving your goals, put in the time factor alongside the plans so that you are able to gauge how well you are doing. If you notice that you are lagging behind schedule, take corrective measures to curb the anomaly.
Each day should bring you closer to achieving your goal. What are you doing in the morning of your life? Can you account for the day and truly say you have moved one step towards success?
As one writer once said, “You will only be remembered in life for your obsession”, leave a footprint in life for others to follow through.
